Sunafil prioritizes risk management

The National Superintendence of Labor Inspection (Sunafil) prioritizes risk management in the country to reduce the accident rate in the civil construction sector, for which, with preference, it opts for inspection, orientation and technical assistance operations in this particularly vulnerable sector.

In this context, between 2020 and 2022, 284 construction works were paralyzed, as a result of actions carried out through control operations in the country that allowed the lives of 8,987 workers to be safeguarded, the supervisory entity indicated on the occasion of the Day of the Worker in Civil Construction, which is celebrated every October 25.

Between 2014 and 2022, Sunafil carried out 39,547 inspections nationwide, in order to verify whether workers had adequate security measures and whether their labor rights were respected.

Most of the inspections were carried out in Metropolitan Lima, La Libertad, Piura, Arequipa and Junín. In these actions, the most inspected matters were remuneration, payroll or records that replace it, working hours, paid work hours and breaks, personal protective equipment, safety conditions, among other topics.

As a result of this constant work of the supervisory entity, in the same period 5,733 fine resolutions were issued in the first and second administrative instance for an amount of 242 million 823,482 soles.

Beyond the imposition of fines, Sunafil seeks to create a culture of awareness that allows prioritizing safety and health at work.

In this regard, between 2014 and 2022, 4,483 orientations were provided to 26,810 workers.

In this same period, 343 technical assistance services were provided for 2,915 workers.

In addition, Sunafil detailed that between 2014 and 2022, the incorporation of 70,816 workers in the construction sector in the country into an electronic payroll was promoted.

At the same time, he indicated that only so far this year, 5,614 inspections have already been carried out on companies in the construction sector.

Court

Through a statement, Sunafil announced the extension of the registration period for applicants to elect a titular member of the First Chamber of the Labor Inspection Court.

Those interested will now be able to apply until October 27, 2022, according to the new provision, so the curricular evaluation will be carried out until that date. However, the other phases of the schedule remain with the previously established dates.

Among the requirements that those interested must meet are being Peruvian and a practicing citizen, having a professional degree, accrediting at least a master’s degree, and having no less than 10 years of professional experience.

Preferably, the applicant must have specialized studies in constitutional, administrative or labor law, and enjoy impeccable and publicly recognized conduct.
